Bio

Brenda Layne

Singer-Songwriter Brenda Layne has been playing music and writing songs since the age of 9. Growing up in the Los Angeles area amongst many entertainment industry folk, Brenda became aware of a serious allergy to the music “business” early in life. Thus, while continuing to write, sing, play, and study music, Brenda has led a double life as a serial careerist working at a variety of day jobs (including most recently as a licensed psychotherapist and a statistician/data analyst).

While studying at the Berklee College of Music she won the annual Songwriters’ Competition two years running, as well as an ASCAP scholarship for outstanding achievement in songwriting.

Brenda has released two solo albums: an acoustic guitar/vocal CD of her quirky singer-songwriter style songs (“Fucked Up About Love”) and a CD of her original songs in the style of jazz standards (“Torch”).

Brenda also holds a Ph.D. in psychology. Her dissertation addressed the study of the psychological effects of music lyrics.

Brenda has a passion for music lyrics. Some of the lyricists who have influenced her are: Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Bernie Taupin, Ann Wilson, Nancy Wilson, Robert Plant, Robert Hunter, Todd Rundgren, Daryl Hall, John Oates, Tom Waits, Jon Anderson, Neil Peart, and David Bowie
